Reports suggest that damage to the SEA-ME-WE 5 submarine cable system occurred in the straits of Mallaca, causing internet disruption in South Asia.

“My impression based on the report of a temporary outage followed by the current long term outage is that the cable experienced a shunt fault where water penetrated the polyethylene insulation. The repeaters were able short term to compensate but the electrical short grew over time and the connection to the very important Tuas CLS in Singapore was completely lost,” speculated Roderick Beck, who sells subsea capacity to carriers for United Cable Company.

United Cable Company’s Roderick Beck offers insights on the damage to subsea cables. “One of the three destroyed cables is the “Asia-Africa-Europe 1”, or AAE-1 for short. “It is extremely important because it connects Hong Kong with Marseille and has a high capacity,” says Roderick Beck. He works for the American United Cable Company, which trades in network capacity. Marseille is a crucial hub for Europe. He explains that 16 submarine cables come ashore here alone.
Read the article on faz.net (in German)

Joining Forces to Extend Global Reach, this Partnership Brings Fresh Opportunities for Wholesale and Enterprise Markets

HAMILTON, BERMUDA – July 18, 2023 – Global Cloud Xchange (GCX), a network service provider powering global connectivity for new media providers, telecom carriers and enterprises, is delighted to announce its recent partnership with United Cable Company (UCC). This agreement leverages GCX’s expansive infrastructure, lending enhanced capabilities to UCC and, by extension, its vast portfolio of clients.

This partnership symbolizes a strategic move for GCX, enabling the expansion of its network services across wholesale and enterprise markets worldwide, with an emphasis on the Middle East. UCC, a seasoned independent consultant and broker specializing in securing end-user services from premier carrier operators in niche global routes, now brings Global Cloud Xchange (GCX) – the operator of the world’s largest privately-held subsea cable system – into its fold. The result is an enriched offering that provides UCC’s clients with unparalleled access to GCX’s robust network services. This cooperative effort significantly augments UCC’s reach and connectivity, offering its clients a competitive advantage through superior network solutions.

“We’re thrilled to partner with UCC, a leader in procuring end-user services. This collaboration opens up a new chapter for us at GCX, as it allows us to tap into UCC’s client base, while they leverage our robust global network. Together, we’re bridging the gap between enterprises and global connectivity solutions,” comments Richard Darcy, VP of Channel Sales – Global at GCX.

This partnership brings together two industry leaders, combining their strengths and offerings to present an exceptional opportunity for customers seeking superior network solutions and robust global connectivity.

So grateful that the UCC team could be in attendance. All proceeds from each fine art sale were donated to Veterans Programs via Project Resiliency and the Wounded Warrior Project. Great food, stories, and company. What a night to remember.
